NEW INDUSTRIAL SPINNING ROTOR GAUGE INSTRUMENT

SRG vacuum sensor

Product news

January 15th, 2020

The Spinning Rotor Gauge technology, well known from metrology calibration applications, is now moving into industrial applications with the VIM-1 Spinning rotor gauge instrument.

The spinning rotor gauge is based on a magnetically levitated spinning steel ball, where the deceleration time caused by the friction between the gas molecules and the steel ball is measured to determine the pressure.

The low-cost corrosion resistant and passive sensor element can be used to verify and test permanently sealed vacuum cavities like vacuum insulation panels and isolation vacuum in liquid gas storage tanks.

A spinning rotor gauge sensor has no ionization source and heated filament and only stainless steel is exposed to the vacuum gas. The inert properties of the spinning rotor gauge sensor makes it suitable for rate-of-rise leak testing and vacuum chamber outgassing characterization.

The VIM-1 is available as a stand-alone system or in combination with the SmartPirani™ for a full-range measurement.
